I am
constantly on the
look-out for the
best training
tools and resources
available for
aspiring goalies. I was
very fortunate to have
come across a
unique set of
DVD's by
John Stevenson of The
Goalie Centre. John put a
ton of work into
producing a set of DVD's
that cover in detail some
of the very best
goalie
drills that
goalies of any age or
level can do to
jump way ahead of the
pack.
Most
goalies today
are focusing on a
set of excercises, movements
and techniques that
will only take them so
far. The real
"secret" to
making significant gains in
goalie development lies in
doing a lot of specialized
movement and skating
drills-- an area that
is so often neglected or
overlooked by today's
developing goalies. You can
have the best butterfly in the
world, but if you can't get
into position in time or can't
recover quickly enough, it is
ineffective.
John recognized
this overlooked, yet most
significant part of goaltending
instruction and has
implemented a set of
drills that have
helped his students to
go on to the NHL, the AHL, WHL,
NCAA and many
Teir Junior leagues (BCJHL,
AJHL, SJHL and MJHL).
John produced
these great DVD's a few years
ago, but had not done any
wide-spread promotion to make
them available to everyone.
After I watched these videos,
I told John that we had
to do something to get the word
out about these. This
aspect of goaltending--
movement and skating-- is not
getting the focus and attention
it should be getting.
